The Nigeria Armwrestling Federation on
Wednesday said that it had concluded plans to host at least 15 African countries at this year’s African Armwrestling Championships in Lagos.
The President of NWF, Olatunji Jackson, said in Lagos that the competition would hold from June 28 to July 2.
He said, “We secured the hosting rights at the last African Congress held in Bulgaria during the last Armwrestling World Championships in September 2016.”
He said that this was the first time Nigeria would host.
He said, “It is a big deal for us all as Nigerians and not just the federation. All hands are on deck to ensure a successful hosting and hospitality to the foreigners coming.
“We need to show the foreigners the good side of Nigeria so that when they return to their respective countries, they will have good tales to tell.”
Jackson called on both companies and individuals to partner with the federation for a successful tournament.
He said, “We need financial backing, we can’t do it alone. We don’t have all the funds to execute all that we’ve lined up for the championships.
“We thank the Lagos State Government that has decided to partner with the federation for this competition.
“We still need more sponsors because hosting the competition requires much funding.”
He advised the country’s intending participants to be on their best behaviour and be nice to visitors.
“In any way, you can assist the visitors please do so because your act of kindness will go a long way and you never can tell you where both can still meet in future,’’ said Jackson.
