Police Probes Lynching Of Robbery Suspect In Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State Police command is investigating the thrashing to death of a suspected armed robber by a mob in Yenagoa.
According to findings, the suspect, Ebi Namatebe, was allegedly caught at time he was trying to rob some residents of Kalango road on the densely populated Amarata vicinity.
The sufferers raised alarm and citizens irked by using the incessant robbery incidents in the region formed a mob beating Namatebe with all types of arms.
A few citizens of the vicinity fearing that the mob would kill the suspect at once alerted the Police to save the scenario.
With the approach of the Police crew, the mob disappeared and left Namatebe in his own pool of blood and he was immediately rushed to the hospital.

Sources on the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) where he was rushed to, stated that the medical personnels tried all they could to safe his life, but he gave up the ghost due to massive loss of blood from the injuries he obtained.
The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Mr Asinim Butswat was confirmed the incident stated that the Police are on the path of the perpetrators.
“Policemen from Yenagoa Division responded to a distress call of a mob action by some residents of Kalango Street Amarata, Yenagoa. They claimed the suspect tried to rob a few residents within the area.
On arrival at the scene, the policemen met a wounded young man in a pool of blood; he was then rushed to the FMC for treatment, where he finally died. He was later recognized as one Ebi Namatebe. We’ve intensified our efforts to arrest the perpetrators of this dastardly act. Investigation is ongoing”
