“More Life” is the debut playlist by Canadian artist and music superstar, Drake, and was released March 18th 2017, after several push backs. It is his first release since his 4th studio album in April 2016, Views. He first announced the project on October 23, 2016 (the day before his birthday) on the 32nd Episode of OVO Sound Radio. These four tracks are “Fake Love”, “Sneakin’” which features 21 Savage, “Two Birds, One Stone” and “Wanna Know (Remix)”.
Drake’s probable inspiration of the album came from Vybz Kartel who made a song called “More Life” in the early 2000s. In his interview with Nardwuar in May 2016 he stated the following:
Vybz Kartel is one of my biggest inspirations, one of my favorite artists. You want to talk about a guy coming out of a place that has their own thing, their own culture and absolutely taking over, becoming the one person to idolize. I been to Jamaica when the Gully Gaza thing was going on, was there before, was there after and no matter what, people are always holding up Vybz as an icon. Big up Vybz, man. He’s definitely an inspiration to myself and PARTYNEXTDOOR.
On OVO Sound Radio Episode 38, Oliver El-Khatib announced that More Life would be premiered on the next installment of the radio show, which falls on March 4, 2017.
“The style in which it’s being put together is based on the concept of OVO Sound Radio. It’s almost like a radio show,” he said. “I basically asked myself, ‘What if I did it like OVO Sound Radio, but every song was a new Drake song?’ It’s more like an evolution of a mixtape. After Views, I was inspired and I wanted to keep the music going and get people inspired.”
